Israeli “Momentum” in Intellectual Schools

Israeli start-up technologies are being introduced in Nazarbayev Intellectual schools. A new course on the entrepreneurial education basics is a joint project of “Momentum” in Intellectual Schools and the Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University, dedicated to the ecosystem of innovation and the creation of a start-up industry.

– Entrepreneurship education is topical for Kazakhstan today, the national economy is moving to an innovative development model, the business environment requires new demands for competitiveness and professionalism, there is a rethinking of the nature of knowledge. We are striving to help our children to realize their intellectual abilities in socially significant areas,” – states Kulyash Shamshidinova, the Chairperson of the board of the autonomous educational organization.

According to Elena Donets, a well-known Israeli coach in the field of start-ups, the training course of basic entrepreneurial skills was developed specifically for Kazakhstani schoolchildren. It focused on developing business thinking and owning business tools. According to the plan at the end of the course the children will have clear ideas about how the venture fund and accelerator work, and how the modern lean startup model and the innovation ecosystem operate. But the main thing is that they will learn how to create and promote their own business projects. All the techniques developed by the Center for Entrepreneurship of Tel Aviv University will be given to the Intellectual Schools.

– Students of Intellectual schools are sufficiently prepared for an innovative business course. The curriculum of the high school includes such subjects as “Economics”, “Global perspectives and project work”, “Kazakhstan in the modern world”, as well as design thinking elective course. We are interested in creating an ecosystem of innovations in Israeli technologies, which today are considered as the world standard, ” – said Svetlana Ispussinova, the Deputy Chairperson of the Board of Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools.

During the fall vacations in Astana, a pilot project was launched. Students and teachers from several schools in the capital began to study, and then they will become trainers. Momentum’s uniqueness lies in the fact that during the project its participants leave the comfort zone and develop not only the basic entrepreneurial, but also life skills necessary for each person to succeed. Thanks to the project, hundreds of young people in various countries around the world have the opportunity to become successful entrepreneurs. For the first year, the Israeli program in different training options – from university audiences to small local groups – was  learned by 400 people.

After intensive training at the Intellectual School of Physics and Mathematics in Astana, students presented their own projects to the mentors and guests of the presentation. Time management, educational platforms, healthy food, goods for teenagers and other issues of concern to modern youth have become the basis for start-ups of future millionaires. As the guest of the presentation, the executive secretary of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Aryn Orsariyev, noted, that all projects are characterized by a fresh, creative approach and could be implemented. Now the students are beginning the next stage – they have a month to implement start-ups.

– In Israel, traditionally the basics of economics and entrepreneurship of children are taught from the school. That accordingly forms business thinking and big ambitions, on which all successful projects are built. Already the first week of work with the participants of Momentum in Astana convinced us of the Kazakhstani schoolchildren great potential, – says Elena Donets.

Elena is known in Israel not only as one of the most sought-after trainers, but also as creator of innovative start-ups. Among its most creative projects of a global scale is the establishment of the Tel Aviv University Entrepreneurship Center, which nowadays works with many countries. In Kazakhstan, successfully have implemented international projects of entrepreneurial education, in particular, the joint project of the Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University and ERG (Eurasian Group) “Ecosystem of student entrepreneurship.”

The Association of Friends of Tel Aviv University is a unique organization that unites academic community around the world with one of the main universities in Israel. In our country, one of the Association’s missions is the development of entrepreneurial education and the formation of entrepreneurial culture.
